  NJ-NAIOP's September Meeting On New Jersey's Economic Growth Challenges

  NEW BRUNSWICK--The New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NJ-NAIOP) will host a Chapter Meeting on “Economic Growth Challenges II” on Thursday, September 11 at the Woodbridge Hilton.

The event begins with networking, cocktails and buffet at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Rutgers economists expect New Jersey to enter a recession that will last into 2010 that will cause the loss of another 31,000 jobs with an exodus of high-paying knowledge-based jobs on top of rising energy costs, state budget shortfalls, and a tight credit market. Nevertheless, Trenton continues to introduce legislation, policies and regulations that add to the costs of doing business and creating private-sector jobs as well as justify New Jersey's dismal performance on virtually every business climate indicator.

Michael Seeve, President of Mountain Development Corp. in Clifton, will moderate a discussion on the state and future of New Jersey's economy. Dr. James Hughes (Dean of the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers) will discuss New Jersey's difficult economic reality and the economic challenges facing the state and the region. Senator Raymond Lesniak, Chairman of the Economic Growth Committee, will share his views on what the legislature can do to make New Jersey a more affordable place in which to live, work and do business. And, Star-Ledger columnist Paul Mulshine will share his perspective on what New Jersey needs to do to stop the exodus of jobs, businesses and people to competing states.
